What is wraparound?

Wraparound is an evidence-based, team-based approach to care that helps children, youth, and families with complex needs build a plan for success together.

At its core, Wraparound is about listening first. It brings together the people who know a child best—family members, natural supports, and providers—to create a plan that reflects the family’s strengths, values, and goals. Rather than focusing only on challenges, Wraparound focuses on what’s strong, what’s working, and what’s possible.

How Wraparound works

Wraparound is not a single service—it’s a structured, guided process that builds a circle of support around each child and family.

At Directions for Living, this process includes:

  • An Integrated Decision Team Facilitator
    A trained Wraparound facilitator partners closely with the family to guide the process, coordinate care, and ensure every voice is heard.
  • A team chosen by the family
    Families help identify the people they trust—relatives, friends, teachers, mentors, and providers—to be part of their Wraparound team.
  • A personalized plan of care
    Together, the team develops a plan built around the family’s goals, culture, and strengths, with clear steps and supports.
  • Ongoing support and adjustment
    The team meets regularly to celebrate progress, problem-solve challenges, and adjust the plan as needs change.
